Adaptive Realtime Terrain Triangulation
نویسنده
چکیده
A system for realtime terrain triangulation is presented which allows fully user controllable and smooth level of detail transitions. To accomplish this as well as to ooer the possibility of data compression, the terrain elevation data is hierarchically interpolated. The interpolation error, the so called hierarchical surplus, is used as a criterion to detect redundant data and serves as a way to control the error of the terrain approximation.

Terrain-based Adaptive Compression and Real-time Visualization
We propose a large scale terrain adaptive compression method with high compression rate in this paper by using integer wavelet transform combined with restricted quadtree triangulation based on the terrain variation characteristic. By taking advantage of the efficient computing and multi-resolution attributes of our algorithm, we can decompress the wavelet coefficients which indicate the terrai...
متن کاملHigh-Performance Terrain Rendering Using Hardware Tessellation
In this paper, we present a new terrain rendering approach, with adaptive triangulation performed entirely on the GPU via tessellation unit available on the DX11-class graphics hardware. The proposed approach avoids encoding of the triangulation topology thus reducing the CPU burden significantly. It also minimizes the data transfer overhead between host and GPU memory, which also improves rend...
متن کاملIrregular Morphing for Real-Time Rendering of Large Terrain
The following paper proposes an alternative approach to the real-time adaptive triangulation problem. A new region-based multiresolution approach for terrain rendering is described which improves on-the-fly the distribution of the density of triangles inside the tile after selecting appropriate Level-Of-Detail by an adaptive sampling. This proposed approach organizes the heightmap into a QuadTr...
متن کاملTop–Down View–Dependent Terrain Triangulation using the Octagon Metric
In this paper, we introduce the octagon metric as a useful distance metric for the interactive visualization of large–scale terrain data. Based on recursive bisection triangle meshes, this metric automatically ensures valid distance–dependent triangulations without cracks or T–junctions. We will show how the octagon metric can be used for view–dependent refinement at little computational cost a...
متن کاملA Simple Adaptive Scheme for Terrain Modeling Based on Average
We present a simple scheme for approximating a surface given a set of 3D points sampled on it via a retangular adaptive (RA) triangulation. This scheme considers an average on the neighboring triangles of a vertex to define an intermediate polinomial surface that better represents the surface.
